Welcome to
Roderick Hill Lodge
We are a Masonic Lodge meeting in Chepstow, part of the Province of Monmouthshire. All are welcome to browse this site to find out about Freemasonry in general and our Lodge in particular
The Story Behind the Lodge Name
The name of the Lodge is unusual, when the Lodge was founded in 1975 it was named after a living person. While there is no rule against it this doesn’t happen often.
The Lodge is named after RW. Bro. Colonel Edward Roderick Hill D.S.O., K.St.J., J.P., M.A., Lord Lieutenant of Monmouthshire and a Provincial Grand Master of this Province.
What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest social and charitable organisations, with its origins rooted in the values and traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles. Our modern ethos is based upon four stated core values, which help define our path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Service.
Today we have a diverse and thriving community of approximately 175,000 members throughout England and Wales, as well as Districts overseas – drawn from all walks of life.
Women’s Freemasonry is also thriving under its own jurisdictions.
